Physical Therapy
When it comes to rehabilitation, not much is more important than physical therapy! Success in movement is accomplished through our process of functional progression. Many spine rehabilitation therapists and trainers jump right into strengthening without effective progression. This often leads to a false sense of stability and a relapse into the same condition.
5 Phases of Functional Progression
The 5 Phases of Functional Progression helps reduce postural distortions and creates mobility, stability, strength and control of skilled movements. Each patient is progressed at his or her own pace. The key component is that each phase must be performed efficiently prior to moving to the next phase. Also, each phase overlaps to allow for seamless improvement.
- Pain Relief & Mobility: the goal is to achieve normal ranges of motion without pain. You set yourself up for a relapse or a false sense of security if you attempt to strengthen without mobility.
- Mobility & Stability: once pain relief is achieved, the goal shifts to developing core strength and proper posture. We aim to teach new movement capabilities.
- Control Mobility: this is when one is able to maintain core strength and proper posture during movement
- Control Mobility & Skill: this is a more progressed phase because Skill implies changing your environment (i.e. surface or resistance). Tools such as Bosu balls, Stability balls, bands, etc. are introduced to challenge Control Mobility
- Skill: this phase centers on the conscious and unconscious aspects of balance and coordination through more challenge movements and different environmental stimulus
Our Physical Therapy also helps with:
- Extremity Injuries
- Post Surgery Rehabilitation
- Tendonitis
- Bursitis
- Sprains
- Strains
